ANIMAL MEDICAL SERVICES
Cottonwood Veterinary Service provides all of the important routine care your pet needs and is prepared for unexpected health problems or injuries that can arise. We provide thorough physical exams, offer discussions of risks and benefits of vaccines to individualize a vaccination protocol for your pet. During an examination we try to gain as much information about your pet and its’ health in an attempt to provide the most thorough and complete health assessment and preventative healthcare recommendations. We also provide health care for your exotic pets, whether a bird, reptile, or pocket pet, we love them all.
Routine to emergency, general to advanced, if there is a health care concern for your pet we can provide the help you need. We have the skills and equipment to diagnose or treat almost any disease. When a referral is necessary, we can digitally provide the preliminary diagnostics and facilitate the referral to a specialty center.
Disease & Trauma Mangement
If your dog or cat should become sick or hurt, we are committed to providing quality treatment based on good diagnostic efforts to cure and manage diseases and traumatic events in your pet’s life. Some of the diagnostic tools we use are digital radiographs. The benefits of digital radiographs are they available for immediate viewing, can be quickly burned to CD or emailed to a specialist if needed. We also provide pulse oximetry, blood pressure checks, and in-house lab equipment for most blood work diagnosis.
We also provide overnight care with a doctor staying at the clinic for sick or injured pets.
Dental Preventative Care
Our animal patients get tremendous benefits from routine dental cleanings and treatments. When the gums become inflamed due to the presence of plaque, tartar, and bacteria, the infection can spread to other parts of the body causing serious health problems such as heart and kidney disease.
Dental cleanings must be performed under general anesthesia to provide a safe and quality cleaning. A dental cleaning includes, IV fluids, extensive anesthetic monitoring, both, hand and ultrasonic scaling, polishing, and antiseptic rinse.
Senior Preventative Care
Our goal is to keep your pet healthy into their late years. As your dog or cat, age the focus of care changes to include internal organ monitoring, the prevention and treatment of arthritis. We do this through health exams, periodic laboratory and X-ray diagnostics and through the use of nutritional aids. Early detection is the key to successful treatment. If you wait until your pet tells you something is wrong, chances are the illness is too advanced and too late to treat it effectively. We do recommend wellness exams twice yearly for our senior patients.
Preventative Health Care
We encourage vaccinations, periodic worming and other preventative care to protect not only your pet, but also you from various diseases that may be transmitted. We will create an individualized vaccination protocol for your pet. We recommend starting a vaccination schedule for puppies and kittens at the ages of 8, 12, and 16 weeks of age. The diseases we focus on preventing are Distemper, Parvovirus, Adenovirus, Para influenza, and rabies for dogs. We also recommend the Leptospirosis vaccine if you hunt, or hike with your dog which would bring them into contact to places where wildlife is present.
For cats it’s Panlekukopenia, Calicivirus, Rhinotracheitis, and rabies. If your cat is an outdoor cat or both indoor/outdoor, we recommend the Feline leukemia vaccine.
Exotic Pet Care
Cottonwood Veterinary Service, with Dr. Martin King, provides veterinary care for many exotic pets, including birds, reptiles, pocket pets (hamsters, guinea pigs, rats, etc.), rabbits and sugar gliders. Dr. Martin understands the unique health care needs of your exotic pets.
We offer optimum wellness care programs for most exotic pet species. Since exotic pets often conceal their illnesses, we strongly recommend bi-annual physical examinations to check for health abnormalities and annual monitoring to check for nutritional and husbandry-related conditions.
